The Challenge
PKP Remtrak, a key member of the PKP Group and one of the cornerstones of passenger rail travel in Poland, set out to modernize its fleet to meet the growing expectations of digitally connected passengers. The goal was to provide reliable, high-speed internet on board while improving operational efficiency and preparing for future onboard infotainment services. To achieve this, PKP needed a trusted partner with proven experience in large-scale connectivity projects and a technology platform that could deliver both performance and security.
The Solution
Passengera equipped 60 modernized passenger wagons with its advanced G7 multi-service gateway, a central platform designed to manage onboard connectivity and data synchronization. The system ensures uninterrupted high-speed Wi-Fi throughout each journey, complete with user-friendly authentication via Google or Facebook, enabling PKP to gain valuable passenger insights.
Behind the scenes, the G7 gateway securely synchronizes operational data from other onboard systems, such as CCTV, Passenger Information Systems, and diagnostics, whenever trains return to the depot. This process minimizes mobile data costs while maintaining real-time access to key operational information. The solution also guarantees minimum internet speeds per passenger and separates passenger traffic from operational data to ensure network integrity and security.
The Result
The implementation of Passengera’s G7 gateway has transformed connectivity and efficiency across PKP Remtrak’s modernized fleet. Passengers now enjoy consistent, high-speed internet access that supports work, entertainment, and communication on the move. At the same time, PKP benefits from secure data flows, optimized operations, and a future-proof platform ready for the introduction of onboard infotainment and additional digital services.
This collaboration builds on the successful partnership between Passengera and the PKP Group, including the ED74 modernization project. Together, we are advancing the digital transformation of rail travel in Poland, setting new standards for connectivity, security, and passenger satisfaction.
